Bangla man granted bail

MALDA, Aug. 25: In spite of an appeal by the Malda police to the court to remand the Bangladeshi national, Mr Badiruddin Alam (28), for interrogation in the wake of the sounding of high alert against possible terrorist attack in the country, the court today granted Mr Alam’s bail plea. Court authorities have, however, ordered the Bangladeshi national to stay in touch with the police for interrogation, said the Malda SP, Mr DK Mondal. It was learnt that Mr Alam entered India via the Mahadipur immigration check post yesterday. He was detained by the BSF and officials of the customs and immigration department at the Mahadipur check post yesterday, said the Malda SP, Mr DK Mondal.“We have not found any cognizable documents from him, but detained him for more interrogation following a terror alert across the country”, the SP said.#

The Malda Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce have called a “business strike” on 2 September in the district to protest against frequent attacks on fruit merchants. A few days back, a group of miscreants assaulted the wholesale fruit merchants and demanded job in their shops. The MMCC today sent a letter, after staging protest in Malda town, to the Malda SP and demanded arrest of the criminals. n SNS

MALDA, Aug. 25:
A gang of 12 robbers looted a jewellery shop at Air View Complex in English Bazaar today. The owner of the jewellery house said that the robbers scampered away gold and silver jewelleries amounting to Rs 40,000 from his shop around 2 a.m. today. n SNS
