Flood alert in Malda

MALDA, Aug. 28: Following heavy rainfall at Bhagalpur in Bihar, Malda district magistrate Mr Chittaranjan Das today, alerted all block development officers here to keep a close watch on the steadily rising water-level of the Ganges flowing through this region and take adequate precautionary measures against floods. Mr Das today held a meeting with top officials of the Malda irrigation department, including the executive engineer and the superintending engineer, to chalk out temporary flood prevention measures in Kaliachak II area such as sealing culverts and raising the height of the PWD road by dumping sand bags. Malda DM Mr Chittaranjan Das said that the Ganges in Malda was flowing just 30 centimetres below the danger mark. Mr Das also instructed the BDOs to keep the flood control room operative for 24-hours.
