Compensation for Malda accident victims' kin

MALDA, Aug. 27: The tribal welfare department has granted a non-refundable financial assistance of Rs 20,000 each to the next of the kin of 12 tribal people who were killed in a fatal road mishap at Mahespur in Bamongola on 21 July. The incident had occurred when a speeding truck, in which nearly 70 persons were travelling, hit a tree and overturned while returning from a wedding party. Authorities said they will hand over the amount to the claimants after the Malda Lok sabha by-poll. The transport department authorities have also granted Rs 10,000 each to the next of the kin of those killed in the mishap, but are yet to hand over the money to them.It may be recalled that the state’s tribal welfare minister, Mr Jogesh Barman, came here to meet the family members of the victims after the accident.He had assured the villagers of providing compensation.
