MALDA, Aug. 9: The inspector general of police (law and order) has instructed senior police officials to step up vigilance along the Indo-Bangladesh border on the eve of the Independence Day.A senior police official informed that the IG held a meeting with SPs and other concerned officials in Siliguri yesterday to chalk out measures for security arrangements on Independence Day in the border region. Malda SP, Mr DK Mondal, said they received information from the intelligence branch that ‘extremists’ may try to cross the Indo-Bangladesh border just before the Independence Day with a motive to create unrest in the region. The SP said that they will hold a special meeting with the border security forces on 11 August to discuss about security arrangemests.
