BNCCI to focus on tourism prospects in district

MALDA, Feb.16: The Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BNCCI) will hold a meeting with the members of Malda Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce to explore the prospects of tourism in this district soon.

MMCC spokesperson, Mr Ujjal Saha said that the meeting was scheduled to be held on 14 February but it was postponed as the president of BNCCI, Mr S Sen left for New Delhi due to an emergency.

According to Mr Saha, the state tourism department has proposed the BNCCI to explore the prospects of tourism sector in the districts and submit proposals and suggestions to develop infrastructure for tourism industries in the state. “We will talk to the local traders and people who are involved in research work in Malda seeking development of the tourism sector in this district where the BNCCI representatives will be present”, Mr Saha said.

The MMCC has planned to submit proposals through BNCCI to both Central and state governments to highlight Malda district in the tourism map published on the website to draw attention of the tourists globally.

The MMCC's joint secretary, Mr Ujjal Saha said: “Malda's Gour, which was also the ancient capital of Bengal, is not popular as a tourist destination. Even in the Central and state government websites on tourism, Malda district did not feature prominently unlike Darjeeling
