Wanted criminal killed

Statesman News Service
MALDA, Feb. 13: According to sources, a wanted criminal, Yusuf Ali Biswas (40), was murdered in Silampur near Narayanpur village under Kaliachak police station last night.

Yusuf, son of local Congress leader Mr Tuhur Biswas, was killed by crude bombs wielded by a group of aggressors.

“Yusuf's wife Mrs Sabina Yeasmin has lodged a complaint against six persons known to her as Yusuf's rivals. The investigation is ongoing, but no one has been arrested so far,” said Mr Kalyan Mukhopadhyay, the newly appointed Malda additional superintendent.

According to police, criminals had attacked the iron-loaded lorry in which Yusuf Ali Biswas was travelling at midnight last night. His body was recovered in a field today, a few km away from the site.

Reportedly, Yusuf was wanted in several criminal cases. Sources say Yusuf had stolen the lorry laden with iron from NH-34 under Malda police station area in January this year. Last night, he was transporting the stolen iron rods when the lorry was attacked at Silampur, close to Narayanpur village.

Police recovered 25 per cent of the stolen rods, while the remaining rods were lost in the surrounding wetlands.
