3 suspected H1N1 cases

MALDA/SILIGURI, 13 AUG: The Malda district health officials have detected two suspected Swine Flu cases, both migrant labourers, today. One of them, Noor Islam, a resident of Mothabari in Kaliachak-11, was admitted at the Malda district hospital while the other from Sujapur, is yet to report to hospital.

Another patient suspected to be infected with the H1N1 virus was referred to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital today.

Meanwhile, the Darjeeling district chief medical officer (health) Dr Subir Bhowmik said that the district health department might ask the NBMCH authority to admit all the flu like cases to be kept in the isolation ward if such a directive came from the state health department.

“I have heard of such a circular, but it has not reached us as yet today being a holiday,” he said.

According to the Malda district CMO (H), Dr Srikanta Roy, Noor Islam has been kept in the isolation ward in Malda hospital. “He contracted high fever on his return from Mumbai. We would send his throat swab to the test centre for pathological confirmation,” he added.

Prof RN Bhattacharya, the nodal officer, NBMCH Swine Flu preventive unit, said that Mr Kamal Basnit (34), a resident of Rongpo in Sikkim, was admitted at the medical college this evening.

“A blood test has confirmed that he is suffering from Plasmodium (Celebral Malaria).

“His throat swab has been obtained and would be sent for pathology test to a Kolkata-based laboratory. He is under surveillance in the isolation ward,” Dr Bhattacharya added. ;SNS
