Land problems stall Madrassa project

MALDA 17 AUG.: The minister of state for minority development and Madrassa education, Mr Abdus Sattar today asked the Malda administration to begin construction soon for setting up Anganwadi centres under the Integrated Child Development Project in minority dominated areas.

During a review meeting held in Malda today Mr Sattar asked about the status of the project to which the department has allotted Rs 21 crore.

Though the district has already received Rs 10.40 crore in the first phase, nothing has been done.

In reply, the additional district magistrate (development) Miss Indrani Saha said the project was yet to begin because of land problems.

“We have received 200 proposals from different areas and now we need to check the land status to begin the construction work,” she added.

It may be noted that the district has received Rs. 68.7 crore for the Madrasah Education and Multi Sectoral Development Programme.

The minister today reviewed the progress of the three districts ~ Malda and North and South Dinajpur ~ today.

Besides, the minister approached to implement widow pensions, disability pensions and other projects in the three districts.

“The district officials have been asked to send reports on these subjects soon,” said Mr A Khaleque, joint secretary of the minority affairs and madrassa education department.

The minister also disbursed allotted funds for madrassa building purposes in three districts where he stressed to provide minority girls’ incentives and to build their common room and toilet.

Addressing this programme, Mr Sattar said: “The government has given the required salary to the teachers in Madrassa, now we want and expect quality boys and girls from them.”
