BSF tightens security along Bangla border for I-Day

MALDA, 11 AUG.: The Malda BSF sector has tightened security along the India-Bangladesh border following reports that anti-national elements in connection with militant organisations may sneak into Indian territories before 15 August.

The officiating DIG, Malda BSF sector Mr BK Jha, said: “We will not take any chance following the intelligence report about infiltration of anti-national elements as they might cause disturbances in the cpountry before and after Independence Day."

“Just to thwart the entry of any infiltrator, additional forces have been deployed since 9 August along the border covering a stretch of 300 kms in Malda and South Dinajpur district,” Mr Jha said.

According to him, the BSF will continue special patrolling from 10 to 17 August under the leadership of staff officers of the head quarters. Commandants of five battalions will station at the camp along the border till 17 August. The additional forces from the sectoral headquarters have been deployed in the vulnerable spot yesterday. According to senior BSF officials, as preventive measures border vigilance have been intensified in Murshidabad district particularly in the unfenced and riverine zones.

In the wake of the recent recovery of powerful remote controlled improvised explosive devices from areas under the Kaliachak police station, close to the Bangladesh border, the district police have intensified vigilance in specific areas through its intelligence wing.
