EBM in a fix over garbage disposal

MALDA, 20 AUG.: Despite the order given on 7 August by the Malda sub-divisional officer, Mr Prakash Pal to find a different place for dumping garbage, the chairman of the English Bazaar Municipality (EBM) is in a fix over selecting a suitable place for the purpose within the given period of 30 days.

Following protests from locals, the SDO had allowed the EBM to dump garbage at its old vat located at Chandan Park only for thirty days from 7 August. The chairman of the EBM, Mr Narendranath Tiwari, said: “It is not possible to select a land and complete obtaining its ownership rights for the EBM within 30 days. Our staff are in search of suitable lands for the purpose. We have found a plot of land in Ramchandrapur under Kazigram gram panchayat and talks are going on for buying it. Another plot of land has been selected at Soudulahapur but nothing has been finalised yet," he said. Following the proposal of the civic body, though the district magistrate, Mr Sridhar Ghosh has decided to offer a vested land for garbage dumping in the English Bazaar block, the surveyor of the EBM has rejected the land due to its distance from the town. The SDO plans

to issue another letter to the EBM as a reminder and would ask them to dump garbage at the new location. SNS
