DM slams PWD for slow work

MALDA, 13 AUG: The Malda district magistrate Mr Sridhar Ghosh today criticised the role of the government public works department for delaying the execution of many works in the district.

Speaking at the laying of the foundation stone for a proposed building of the rural development department and godown of relief materials for disaster management this morning, Mr Ghosh said: "We have suggested to concerned officials that they appoint a competent agency to complete the work on time.

“If the PWD starts a construction, nobody knows when the work will be completed. Practically, the PWD takes a long time to complete a project," he argued.

According to the administrative officials, the panchayat and rural development department has allotted funds for setting up a DRD cell in its permanent office.

The district administration has decided to build a godown for disaster management on the ground floor and other government offices will be set up on the first floor including district panchayat and rural development department. The district magistrate has allowed the construction of a new building, providing a plot of land, after demolishing the old structure of a godown for the relief department, close to the collectors building.

The district magistrate pointed out space constraints in Malda town regarding any new building for any project.
