Solution for garbage strife

MALDA, 27 AUG: The Malda district magistrate Mr Sridhar Ghosh has asked the English Bazaar Municipality (EBM) not to dump garbage any more at the present vat located near Chandan Park.

In a letter to the civic body yesterday the district magistrate Mr Ghosh informed the civic body that the administration has planned to build a hostel for Muslim girls there.

It may be noted that the decision was taken following the proposal of Mr Abdus Sattar, minister of state for minority affairs and madrassa education.

Mr Sattar had asked the district administration to prepare a project for the construction of a hostel and a training institute for Muslim girls when he came to know the land was Wakf property.

Recently, following locals’ resistance against garbage dumping by the EBM at the present vat, the district administration came to a decision that the EBM would be allowed to dump garbage at that place for 30 more days only from 7 August.

The Malda SDO Mr Prakash Pal had also asked the civic body to find another place for dumping garbage within these 30 days.

In the meantime, following the instruction of the minister of state for minority affairs and in consultation with the district magistrate Mr Ghosh, the additional district magistrate (land reforms) Mr KN Dew, had earmarked the land, presently used for garbage dumping, as Wakf property.

According to records of the district land and land reforms department, a total of 2.75 acre of land belongs to Abdul Aziz Khan Wakf Estate out of 3.12 acre. A total of 0.37 acre out of 3.12 acre has already been sold off in the name of three persons.

It may be noted that the property of Abdul Aziz Khan Wakf Estate is under the direct management of the Wakf Board.

The additional district magistrate (land reforms) has proposed that the heir to Abdul Aziz Khan Estate, Mr Tousique Khan, a resident of Pandua Kutub Shahar in Gazole, donate the land to the government for the construction of a hostel for Muslim girls. The district magistrate Mr Sridhar Ghosh will finally send a proposal to the minority affairs department for setting up the girls’ hostel near Chandan Park. SNS
