State takes over shrine loot case

MALDA, 27 AUG: District magistrate Mr Sridhar Ghosh has sent all the inquiry reports regarding the shrine located at Peeranapir in English Bazaar, to the state government. Two Malda MPs were allegedly involved in a loot case at the shrine and they had gone for anticipatory bails in Calcutta High Court on 25 August.

The original land records and the police report on the shrine, which was allegedly looted, have already been sent to the Writers’ Building. Following instructions from the top most officials of the state secretariat, the additional district magistrate (land reforms), Mr KN Dew was asked to find out the original land records of the shrine.

Mr Dew submitted his inquiry reports to the district magistrate on Tuesday. According to records of the land and the land reforms department, a total of 2.27 acre belongs to “Shas Hazari Wakf’ which has been identified as Peeranapir Dargah.

The Wakf board has sent a letter to the district magistrate following the incident that occurred at the shrine and asked the administration to co-operation with the present caretaker, Mrs Sehnaz Qadri for the protection of the Wakf property.

The letter also said that Rubi Noor, former MLA of Sujapur and also the sister of AB Ghani Khan Choudhury, along with Mrs Sehnaz Qadri were the caretakers of the Wakf property.But after Noor's death, Wakf had appointed Mrs Qadri as caretaker of the property.

However, the English Bazaar police station has started a suo-moto case of robbery against six persons including two Malda members of Parliament (north and south) ~ Miss Mausam Noor and Mr AH Khan Choudhury.

They had been charged under Section 143/341/186/353/323/379 of IPC  R/W 188 of IPC for allegedly looting money and valuables, prevention from government duty, rioting and other offences. On 25 August, the accused have sought  anticipatory bail petitions that were filed at the Calcutta High Court.
