BSF awaits LeT quiz data to act

MALDA, Jan. 14: BSF officers are awaiting details of the interrogation of Lashkar-e-Tayyaba activist Mohammed Safikul, who was arrested in Malda yesterday. The BSF requires the details to identify the points on the border that militants and terrorists have been using to infiltrate into the country.

“The information is required to ascertain particular areas of infiltration along the Bangladesh border. The state CID usually provides us with such information. Hopefully we will be able to step up vigilance along the border once we learn of the route used by the infitrators,” said BSF DIG, Malda sector, Mr PS Tomar, today.

A former Indian army jawan, Hazi Akhtar Hossain, was arrested for providing accommodation to the suspected LeT militant. While Safikul was produced in Jangipur court in Murshidabad today, Akhtar has been remanded in police custody for 13 days.

According to police here, CID officials are still keeping an eye on Malda district suspecting there could be others associated with the arrested persons.

It is also learnt that the CID is trying to crack an international fake passport racket in the region.
