MALDA, Jan 12: The state government has recently asked the Malda district administration to review the situation of erosion victims. They have asked that the district administration revise the list of Below Poverty Line (BPL) citizens, inducting the erosion victims.The Malda district magistrate, Mr. Sridhar Ghosh, agreed, “We have to conduct a survey to determine the present position of those families who were rendered homeless and lost their crop lands due to erosion and flood in the last few year in Malda. Families who so recently had everything, and are now converted into landless labourers, must be included on the BPL list”.More than 6,000 families in Malda were rendered homeless five years ago, due to the erosion of the river Ganga. The government had sanctioned Rs. three crore for their rehabilitation, allotting Rs. 5,000 to each family to purchase land in a new area. More than fifty percent of the fund has been spent so far. It may be remembered that on 30 March 2008 more than 1,500 erosion victims from the Kaliachak II and Manikchak block appeared before the Lok Adalat, conducted by four honourable judges from Calcutta High Court in Malda. Many had not only been rendered homeless but also lost farm lands due to the Ganga's fury during the past ten years. Hundreds of women, whose husbands and male relatives had gone to other states in search of labouring jobs, appeared before the Lok Adalat on that day.It seems that another such plea for help is needed, as more than 100 families rendered homeless in the last year within the Manikchak block area are now being deprived of the rehabilitation scheme. These erosion victims must be included on the BPL list, if they are to be properly rehabilitated in the future. n SNS

huge poor family deprive from bpl list whether some rich pet join the bpl .it should be correct.many poor family dying from hunger its shame for us.please do necessary for the below poverty line family to get bpl facility as early as possible...thank you ..md tajer hossain....malda.
