ESI to launch new projects

MALDA, Jan. 7: The Employees’ State Insurance would launch Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojona in the Malda district this month along with three other districts in south Bengal. The ESI would organise a workshop on 12 January in Malda College for better implementation of the programme in the district.

This pilot project (RSBY) would also be implemented in East Midnapore, Burdwan and North 24-Parganas, labour department officials in Malda said today.

The minister for environment and state parliamentary affairs, Mr Sailen Sarkar, would inaugurate the workshop on 12 January along with minister of state for labour Mr Anadi Sahu and director ESI Mr Ajit Ranjan Bardhan. The sabhadhipati of the Malda zilla parishad, Mrs Sabina Yeasmin, Malda district magistrate Mr Sridhar Ghosh and ADM Ms Indrani Saha would be present at the workshop. All block development officials, officials of the labour department and all chiefs of panchayat samities and gram panchayats, employees of insurance companies, and smart card providers have also been invited for the workshop to implement the RSBY schemes successfully in the district.

According to the district administrative officials, BPL families would get medical benefit under the RSBY. A five-member BPL family would get Rs 30, 000 for medical coverage in a year. The head of family would have to pay Rs 30 to register for a smart card.

The government would bear insurance premium of Rs 750 of which, the state government would bear 25 per cent and the Centre the rest 75 per cent. Labour department officials said that to reduce the load on Malda district hospital, nursing homes in Malda have been asked to provide medical services to the beneficiaries under the RSBY in the district.
