Forest officials on toes to arrest jackal deaths on NH~34

MALDA, Jan. 8: The forest department in Malda has put an alert on the National Highway~ 34 at Narayanpur in Old Malda to control traffic movement to help avert jackal deaths. Several jackals were runover on the NH~34 in the past few days leading to an unusual behaviour among a pack.

“Forest officials would monitor vehicular movement at Narayanpur from 5 p.m. to prevent jackal deaths,” said Mr Rajendra Jakhar, divisional forest officer in Malda. A pack of jackals turned violent last evening and assembled on the National Highway disrupting traffic for some hours. Forest officials went to the spot and monitored traffic movement to prevent further jackal deaths. The DFO Mr Rajendra Jakhar, said: “The jackals were confused not finding their dead and injured which led to their action.”

Forest officials recovered the dead jackal and rescued the injured one for treatment. The injured jackal was shifted to the mini zoo in Adina Forest.
