Price pinch ?


MALDA, Jan. 12: The state chief secretary today asked the Malda district magistrate to inform him if the ongoing truckers’ strike had affected the rate of essential commodities in the district or not. The district magistrate has accordingly sent a report on the matter. According to him, the truckers’ stir has not had a major impact in the market prices in Malda. According to consumers and retail traders of the Malda markets, the price of onion has increased by six Rupees in the past seven days and the price of vegetables has increased between Rs five and eight on an average. Eggs are selling at Rs 32 a dozen and the price of pulses ranges between Rs 52 to RS 65 per kg. Fruits are being sold from the clod storage stock. n SNS
