Jehadi literature, arms found in ex-armyman's house

MALDA, Jan. 29: The CID has recovered four detonators and "jehadi" literature from the house of a retired armyman Hazi Akhtar Hussain in Malda's Harishchandrapur village a few days ago, police here said today.

Hazi Akhtar Hossain, a retired armyman, was arrested in his residence for allegedly providing shelter to Mohammed Safikul, an alleged Lashkar-e-Tayaba activist, on 13 January.

After interrogating Haji Akhtar in police custody, the CID learnt of the ammunition stored in his house. The inspector general of police, CID (special operation group), Mr Siddhinath Gupta acknowledged the raid in the house of Haji Akhtar Hossain in Harishchandrapur village over phone but did not elaborate, promising to do so tomorrow.

Local Intelligence Branch sources said that the CID team dug a particular place at the Haji's house and recovered four detonators supplied by Mohammad Safikul, who too was arrested in the house earlier.

According to the district IB sources, the Haji used to receive money from Safikul regularly for doing jobs according to the instruction from the LeT. He received Rs 70, 000 from Safikul recently to spend in his daughter's wedding on 12 January.
