All eyes on Gazole

MALDA, April 11: The Left Front in North Malda expects the Gazole Assembly segment to give them an edge over others this Lok Sabha election. According to the Left Front leadership, the Assembly segment would bring double the votes for CPI-M candidate, Mr Sailen Sarkar this election in comparison to the last general election.

“Gazole was part of the Balurghat Lok Sabha constituency in the last LS poll. Mr Ranen Barman of the RSP was elected from the Balurghat seat by a margin of about 14,000 votes. This year the CPI-M candidate, Mr Sailen Sarkar would increase the margin,” claimed RSP leader Mr Sarbananda Pandey.

In the last Lok Sabha polls, the RSP had secured 53,000 votes, the BJP backed Trinamul got 39,000 votes and the Congress got 18,000 votes in Gazole.

“This year the BJP candidate Mr Amlan Bhaduri is contesting from North Malda. If the BJP at Gazole does not sell its votes to the Congress, Miss Mausam Noor of the Congress would automatically fail to take a lead and the CPI-M would secure the maximum number of votes from Gazole,” Mr Pandey said.

Though the RSP leadership is optimistic about a Left Front victory, the Congress vice president of Gazole unit, Mr Masudur Rahman said: “Miss Mausam Noor would get more votes than the rest of the contesting candidates because a large number of CPI-M supporters have joined the Congress due to faction feud and misrule of the CPI-M in Gazole.”

The CPI-M candidate, Mr Sailen Sarkar too was confident of winning. SNS
