When A H Khan was miffed

MALDA, April 8: The South Malda Congress candidate, Mr AH Khan Choudhury today rebuked his party leaders and told them to quit the party. He stated that he was “frustrated” with them for failing to be active enough in the poll campaign and allied matters.

Mr Khan Choudhury, who was at Piranapir in English Bazaar this morning, noticed that the area was bereft of Congress posters, banners and graffiti and sought an explanation from the local party leadership. When a section of leaders tried to convince him that they had done their part, Mr Khan Choudhury rebuked them and told them to quit the party.

“I did not find any graffiti, posters, banners or hoardings in my or the party's support throughout the area. If you do not carry out the job you should tell me to engage professionals for the job,” Mr Khan Choudhury told the party leaders. Chastened, the leaders left to collect poll propaganda material from the candidate's house at Kotwali in English Bazaar and distribute it. Admitting the problem, the English Bazaar Congress MLA, Mr Krishnendu Choudhury said: “It is true we have started campaigning late. The workers are now preparing to display banners in all Assembly segments of South Malda.”

It was a bad day in the office for the Congress in Malda today. The South Malda Congress candidate came in for criticism from the district magistrate and returning officer Mr Sridhar Ghosh for violating the Election Commission's guidelines during the filing of nomination papers.

Despite several requests and verbal notifications issued by the police Mr Khan Choudhury entered the returning officer's room with more than five supporters to file his nomination papers. n SNS
