PM's Science Express chugs off

MALDA, April 14: The Science Express was flagged off by the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, to create awareness and develop a scientific temperament among the people, with a particular focus on students. The express train, with its 16 coaches devoted to science displays, reaches Malda Town Station tomorrow morning.

The train will leave for Malda Town station from Sealdah Station tonight.

The Malda divisional railway manager, Mr AK Mathur, will inaugurate the science train at around 10 a.m. tomorrow.

The train will display gadgets in 16 of its coaches and will be open to visitors for three days till 17 April. Visiting hours fall between 10 a.m. and five p.m.

The exhibition train left Delhi on 30 November and stopped at 38 stations before reaching Malda Town station.

Visitors will learn about the latest breakthroughs in science ~ from space science to unlocking the mysteries of the human brain. Topics covered included the origin of the stars, man and languages, ecology, energy and global warming, as well as computer applications in medicine and several other scientific models.

The train will cover a total of 17,000 km in six months with halts at 52 stations.
