Sonia , CM to rally in Malda

MALDA, April 16: The Congress party president, Mrs Sonia Gandhi and chief minister Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacherjee will campaign for their candidates in North Malda parliamentary constituency on 27 April.

The Malda Congress leaders had sent a proposal to the AICC for Mrs Sonia Gandhi to campaign in Samsi in Ratua Assembly segment following which the CPI-M changed chief minister Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee's schedule for Samsi.

“We have selected the venue at Samsi for Mrs Sonia Gandhi campaigning for new Congress candidate Miss Mausam Noor in a newly formed North Malda parliamentary seat. We do not have the official confirmation about her visit from the AICC till date. The state Congress leaders have not received any official confirmation for Mr Rahul Gandhi's visit in Raiganj till date as well,” Mr Hassan Ali Shah, general secretary of the Malda Congress, said. Mr AH Khan Choudhury, the Malda MP and contesting Congress candidate for South Malda parliamentary seat is confident of his victory and seems uninterested in organising any rally in his area with heavyweight leaders of the Congress, the district Congress leaders said.

The Malda CPI-M has already announced the time and venue of chief minister Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee's election campaigning in Malda and North Dinajpur districts. According to the Malda CPI-M party office, Mr Bhattacharjee will be coming here by train on 25 April and would go to Samsi (regulated market committee ground) around 4 p.m. on 25 April.
