MALDA, April 13: The late Congress patriarch of Malda, ABA Ghani Khan Choudhury, seems to be serving the party even three years after his demise. Ghani Khan's birthday is tomorrow and the Congress would hold a “low key” affair to observe the day.
The English Bazaar MLA, Mr Krishnendu Choudhury, has set up a life size statue of Khan Choudhury close to Mukta Mancha on Brindabani play ground and has invited all Congress leaders to assemble at the site tomorrow and pay obeisance. Though the Congress leaders had planned to unveil the statue, the idea was shelved in view of the election Code of Conduct, the leaders said.
The Left Front leaders in Malda are anxious about the location where the statue has been set up.
They are worried because Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee is expected to address a poll rally at the playground on 27 April and the podium is next to the statue. n SNS
