Gazole gears up for Pranab rally

Statesman News Service
MALDA, April 20: External affairs minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee will be campaigning in Gazole, a tribal dominated red bastion, in a bid to reduce the leading margin of the CPI-M candidate Mr Sailen Sarkar in the North Malda parliamentary seat.

According to Mr Masudur Rahman, the district Congress vice president and election agent of the Congress candidate Miss Mausam Noor, Mr Mukherrjee will hold a rally in Gazole on 22 April. Though the Congress initially planned a joint rally of Mr Mukherjee and the Trinamul Congress chief, Miss Mamata Banerjee, but there has been no official date for Miss Banerjee’s rally. Mr Rahaman said: “If Miss Mamata Banerjee can mange time for Malda we will arrange another rally at Pakuahaat in Bamongola under Habibpur Assembly segment”.

It may be noted that the Congress has targetted to reduce the leading margin of the CPI-M from the two Assembly segments like Habibpur and Gazole, red bastions, where the LF leaders are expecting a 40,000 plus lead margin for the CPI-M candidate.

Political observers feel that the CPI-M senior leader, Mr Sailen Sarkar will face a tough fight against the Congress candidate Miss Noor in North Malda. It may be noted that Mr Sailen Sarkar was elected twice from Ratua assembly segment.

To gear up the voters in the northern part of his district, the Congress too has planned an mass election rally with the Congress party president Mrs Sonia Gandhi at Samsi College ground on 27 April under the Ratua assembly segment.
