Rahul presence to grace Malda

MALDA, April 21: Congress general secretary Mr Rahul Gandhi will arrive in English Bazaar town on 24 April to kick off the party's campaign in North and South Malda for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.

The Malda Congress MP, Mr A H Khan Choudhury received an official confirmation this morning and asked the English Bazaar MLA Mr Krishnendu Choudhury to make necessary arrangements ahead of his visit. Mr Krishnendu Choudhury today met the Malda superintendent of police Mr Satyajit Bandyopadhayay regarding the venue for the meet and also for proper security cover.

It has been reported that the Congress supporters are facing a lot of problem in deciding upon a venue for the meet. Initally, Brindaboni play ground was on their list, but the CPI-M members have already booked the place for a meeting to be addressed by the chief minister Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on 25 April. The Congress leaders also thought about the ground infront of the Ramkrishna Mission's Vivekananda School, but their plan faced a setback as they would not be allowed to use loudspeakers. “Mr Gandhi will be arriving here around 1 p.m on 24 April. His helicopter can easily land on the DSA's (district sports association) protected ground. But we need to take permission from the secretary of the Malda RKM for using loudspeakers. I will meet Swami Divyananda seeking his permission to organise the programme there”, said Mr Krishnendu Choudhury. n SNS
