Ex-teacher to take on Cong candidate

MALDA, March 4: Dr Abdur Razzak, former teacher of Malda College and former principal of Kaliachak College, will take on the Congress candidate Mr A H Khan Choudhury, present Malda MP, in South Malda parliamentary constituency.

Dr Razzak, a CPI-M candidate, started his campaign today from his locality Pirojpur area; ward no 5, in English Bazaar Municipality. The former teacher of economics department, Dr Razzak along with party leaders today visited voters in Pirojpur area as an official start of his election campaign.

Meanwhile, while the Congress is trying hard to select a suitable candidate for North Malda constituency, the CPI-M candidate Mr Sailen Sarkar, the state environment and state parliamentary affairs minister, has almost completed his first round of meeting in many Assembly segments under North Malda parliamentary constituency. He held meeting to formulate strategies in Harishchandrapur, Chanchal, Ratua and Gazol. The CPI-M party including the district secretary Mr Jiban Moitra organised another party workers meet at Pakuahaat in Bamongola at noon today to secure votes from the Barind belt.

The CPI-M party sources said the workers would not organise rallies till the HS examinations end but they would organise booth wise party workers’ meet to mobilize voters in favour of them. The CPI-M leaders in Murshidabad will also start campaigning for Dr Abdur Razzak in the Farakka and Samsherganj Assembly segments under the South Malda parliamentary constituency.

It was also reported that the state CPI-M secretary and the LF chairman Mr Biman Bose will be coming here on 18 March to attend two party workers meet to formulate campaign strategies for North and South Malda Lok Sabha constituencies.
