Madrassa ransacked

MALDA, March 12: Madrassa board examinees ransacked the Mahamadia High Madrassa in Kaliachak-I block after the Mathematics exams today.

The examinees turned violent after the invigilators refused to solve mathematics questions in the examination hall. They demanded that the invigilators help them to secure 30 to 40 marks in the paper. When the invigilators refused to comply the students went on the rampage, flinging desks from the third floor on to the school ground.

One of the desks fell on a tally roof of a house close to the Madrassa, injuring two people including a child. Protesting against the incident, locals assembled at the Madrassa and chased the students. A clash broke out between the students and their guardians on one side and the villagers on the other. The police had to lathi-charge to control the situation. Several people, including police personnel, were injured in the hostilities.

The invigilators alleged that the students had been forcing the teachers to allow them to cheat since the beginning of the Madrassa exams.

It may be recalled that, demanding the right to copy, Madhyamik examinees had ransacked classrooms and assaulted teachers at the Kalindri High School in Manikchak block after the Mathematics examination on 6 March. n SNS
