Runaway boy to be produced in court

Statesman News Service

MALDA, March 8: A high school student who ran away from home last week will be produced in Malda court tomorrow to record his statement under section 164 Cr PC, police said today.

Malda police were finally able to intercept Subhajit Das alias Raju on the evening of 6 March in Manicktala in Kolkata. They were able to trace him by tracking down the mobile phone used to contact the boy's parents.

Police also intercepted a truck driver accompanying Subhajit, Mr Sib Chand (55), a resident of Howrah. The driver will also be produced in court if necessary, police said.

Malda police yesterday contacted Subhajit's father, Mr Nitai Das, and asked him to identify his son. Subhajit Das, a class IX student of Bibhuti Bhushan High School in English Bazaar town, ran away from his house on 4 March and produced a false kidnapping case script.

The boy tricked a lorry driver and managed to secure a helper's job to flee Malda. The driver was travelling from Bihar to Titagarh delivering wooden logs to a saw-mill. Mr Das lodged a complaint with the police on 6 March.

Police discovered that Subhajit attended school on an irregular basis and had been absent for several preceding days.

Police started their investigation based on two phone numbers recorded in Mr Das' mobile phone at Mangalbari under Malda police station. They gained valuable information from a sawmill owner at Titagarh, from where Mr. Das received the first phone call.
