Woman dies of malignant malaria

Statesman News Service

MALDA, March 16: A 40-year-old woman has died of malignant malaria at Hajitola in Manikchak block, Malda.

According to health department officials, Ms Majia Bewa was suffering from malaria. She was admitted to Manikchak block health centre and referred to Malda district hospital. She died in the district hospital on Friday.

The district health authorities have sent a team of doctors to find the source of malignant malaria in Manikchak village. The deputy CMOH II Dr D Haldar said that health workers had sprayed DDT in the village, centring on the house of the victim.

Three people died and six migrant labourers were diagnosed with malignant malaria in Malda's tribal villages in July last year.

“We need to survey the area where the woman died. We do not know if she was a migrant worker or whether her relatives are migrant workers. We will send a detailed report to our authorities after the investigating officials submit their findings,” the deputy CMOH II said.

According to health officials, at least 10 people from the village are suffering from fever.
