Health dept to monitor all projects

Statesman News Service
MALDA, Mar. 1: The state health minister Dr Surya Kanta Mishra said that his department plans to evaluate all ongoing government projects in every district that has adopted the ‘Dashboard (Control Panel) Monitoring System’. He said that it would take five minutes to evaluate each district by developing computer systems to assist in the process.

Speaking to the media after holding a review meeting with top officials of the nine districts at Malda on Saturday, Dr Mishra said: “Cooch Behar district performed the best out of all 37 state and central-sponsored ongoing projects in West Bengal. Darjeeling placed last because of ongoing unrest in the region.”

Top officials including the DM, CMOH and Sabhadhipati of nine districts from six north Bengal and Murshidabad, Birbhum and Nadia attended the meeting today. Top health department officials including the director of health were also present. The health minister was embarrassed when the local reporters asked him about the minister of public health engineering Mr Anwarul Hoque, who had to return from the Malda district without treatment after suffering from toothache a few days earlier.

The minister said that he would try to appoint dentists in Malda district hospital. Despite several reminders to the authorities, several posts are lying vacant.
