Examinees ransack school for not being allowed to copy

Statesman News Service
MALDA, March 6: Demanding the right to cheat, Madhyamik examinees ransacked classrooms and assaulted teachers at the Kalindri High School in Manikchak block after the Mathematics examination today. “The trouble-mongers were angry because the teachers refused to give in to their demand to cheat,” the DI, schools, for Malda, Mr Chinmay Sarkar, said.

Notwithstanding a few stray incidents, the Madhyamik exams ended peacefully today amid tight security in vulnerable exam venues including Bangitola and Baluachara high schools, where students and guardians had attacked invigilators and ransacked schools during the examinations.

At Kalindri High School, students ransacked the school in presence of block development officer Mr S Das. Some students threatened the teachers with dire consequences if they were not allowed to cheat.

“We succeeded in conducting the exam properly, but all hell broke loose after the exam as the students, along with their guardians, started ransacking the classrooms. Some of the teachers were injured while resisting the attack,” said Mr Nazbul Hossain, headmaster of Kalindri High School.

In a similar incident, violence erupted at Nagharia High School when guardians were denied the opportunity to supply answers to their wards in the examination hall. Alleging that a police officer had slapped an innocent guardian, the guardians gheraoed a police van, refusing to let the accused officer go.(END)

Eventful last day

KOLKATA, March 6: Madhyamik examinees wrote their Mathematics paper today which eventually was also their last paper.
Questions although more or less satisfactory, some examinees felt that the short questions were tough. Some examinees complained the two-mark short questions were very lengthy. Students also complained that a trigonometry question (No. 14 (a)) was tougher than the usual ones.
Meanwhile, in some centres, regular candidates ended up answering the questions meant for external candidates.

These candidates were the ones who failed their selection or pre-Board examinations last year. The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education officials, however, assured that the matter would be taken up with the head examiners. n SNS
