Police issue guide map for security during Pujas

SILIGURI/MALDA 22 SEPT: Darjeeling district police today published a guide map of puja pandals in Siliguri. Publishing the guide map, the IG (North Bengal), Mr KL Tamta said: “The police would set up 40 assistance booths during Durga puja. Thirty mobile police vans would be pressed into service to maintain law and order.” Police would set up close circuit cameras in four important places of the town as well, Mr Tamta said. The police also published similar puja guides in Malda and Jalpaiguri today. Malda police officials said closed circuit TVs would be attached in some specific locations adjacent to the big budget puja pandals in the town.The Malda police super Mr Satyajit Bandyopadhyay said traffic movement would be regulated in the English Bazaar town from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. during the Puja days. Thirty six drop gates would be set up to prevent vehicles from entering the town from 3 p.m. on the puja days Rickshaw vans (manual) would be allowed to ply up to 5.30 p.m. The police have earmarked five places outside the main English Bazaar town as parking places for vehicles. More than 25 police assistance booth would be set up across Malda town and its outskirts including the Old Malda Municipal area to help in controlling law and order and manage traffic with the help of NGOs.
