Security upped on the eve of Id

MALDA, 20 SEPT: Security has been beefed up in some sensitive areas of Malda district on the eve of Id to prevent clashes among local goons. One platoon of Eastern Frontier Rifles has been deployed since yesterday in Majampur area under Kaliachak police station to curb clashes that had been continuing over the past two weeks between two groups, over the rights of power in those areas. Two persons, identified as a CPI-M and Congress workers, were killed there during clash in the past two weeks. Apart from this, additional police forces in civil clothes police have been deployed not only in Majampur but other sensitive areas to maintain peace, law and order during celebration of Id festival tomorrow.Police arrested two persons from Majampur area today, one of whom is a resident of Jharkhand. Police said that a group of hired criminals hailed to Majampur area from Jharkhand with huge amounts of arms, ammunitions and crude bombs. A police picketing point has been assigned to monitor the situation round the clock. SNS
