President to felicitate Malda neo-literates on Literacy Day

MALDA, 7 SEPT: When the Malda district administration will be celebrating “World Literacy Day” at Malda college auditorium tomorrow, three neo-literates from Ratua block of this district will meet the President of India Mrs Pratibha Patil in New Delhi. Mrs Patil will felicitate the neo-literates coming from different states of the country to mark World Literacy Day on 8 September. Following the direction of the state and central authorities the Malda district had recommended three women neo literates from Ratua-I block. They are Mrs Purnima Das (35), a widow and resident of Raghabbati village, Mrs Saleha Bibi (36), resident of Baikunthapur and Mrs Bibi Nurachi (29), another widow of Baikuntha village of Ratua block I. They have been finally selected for attending the programme in New Delhi. According to the additional executive officer (AEO) of the Malda Zilla Parishad (MZP), Mr Kajal Banerjee, who is also the secretary of Zilla Saarbik Saskharata O Janaswasthaya Avijan Samiti, the district has selected two teachers who are working here for continuing education programme in the district. Their names are awaiting the state’s approval. The President of India will also meet the teachers, who are working voluntarily across the country, tentatively on 22 September, Mr Banerjee said. It may be noted that national literacy mission has decided to stress on the programme of women literacy. Although the literacy rate is not so good in Malda, Mr Banerjee, said: “Women literacy rate is better than the state average in Malda”. SNS
