MALDA, 17 SEPT: Congress leader and English Bazaar MLA Mr Krishnendu Choudhury allegedly attacked a councillor Mr Shantanu Saha, belonging to the Trinamul Congress of the English Bazaar Municipality (EBM).
Mr Saha's mother Mrs Babe Saha lodged a complaint with police this evening.
Enmity between Mr Choudhury and Mr Saha was brewing for the past few months over various issues including family matters which has presently turned into a political affair.
It may be noted that Mr Saha came to politics backed by Mr Choudhury's help, when he was former district president of Trinamul Congress and former chairman of English Bazaar Municipality (EBM).
The additional superintendent of police, Mr Kalyan Mukherjee had to interfere when trouble broke out over an apparent minor issue between the two neighbours ~ Mr Choudhury and Mr Saha.
Police interference brought the situation under control.However later it was learnt that followers of English Bazaar MLA assaulted Mr Saha at Golapatti today.
On being intimidated about the incident the Trinamul workers including the present district Trinamul president Mr Goutam Chakraborty came into the scene.
During an exchange of hot words Mr Chakraborty was allegedly humiliated.
“Every thing happened in presence of police and media persons today. I had lodged compliant against the Trinamul councillor with the police when he was repeatedly bad mouthing me”, said Mr Krishnendu Choudhury, the Congress MLA.
The Trinamul Congress took out a rally this evening in Malda town in protest against attack on Mr Shantanu Saha, Trinamul leader.
