Delhi team talks with arrested workers' families



MALDA, Oct 19: A team from New Delhi recently visited areas inhabited by the migrant labourers in Malda district and interacted with the relatives of the labourers who are now behind bar in other states like Maharashtra. They had been arrested on suspicion of being Bangladeshi. Sources said following the intervention of Union home ministry and after receiving complaints from the district level, a team came to Malda and talked to the relatives of the arrested labourers in Manikchak, Ratua and Kaliachak II block areas with the help of local police station. The district intelligence branch has also started collecting information regarding the matter after the visit of the team from Delhi. It may be noted that a few weeks ago hundreds of migrant labourers who were working in Maharashtra, as day labourers, were allegedly beaten up by the activists of Shiv Sena and Nava Nirman Sena. They were handed over to police, who arrested them as suspected Bangladeshi citizen.The leaders demanded release of the migrant labourers and reasonable compensation for violation of human rights.
