“People have to visit Puja pandals on foot. Even the cycles and rickshaws will not be allowed between 3 p.m to 1 a.m from *Saptami”, the Malda SP said.

Police have increased the drop gates to 30 this year from 22, to restrict movement of vehicles including two wheelers, cycles and rickshaw to ease traffic congestion.

With the permission of police only service providers and media persons will be allowed to use cars on the restricted roads.

The district administration has given permission to a total of 120 community Pujas in English Bazaar and Old Malda Municipal areas, according to police.
