Mueder case against BSF men

MALDA, Oct. 16: Baishnabnagar police station in Kaliachak III registered a murder case against two BSF jawans after a local youth Ali Hossian (27) was found dead on the side of Bangladesh. The body was sent for post mortem today.

Ali Hossain (27) of Par Deonapur village was reportedly picked up by two BSF personnel Mr S N Singh and Mr Habildar Onkarnath of Battalion No 108 . He was taken away by Hossain at about 5.30 p.m by boat from Par Anantapur Ghaat on 11 October. The villagers thought that Hossain was arrested and his father Mr Saddam Ali came to Baishnabnagar police station on 13 October to find that police were not informed at all.

He lodged a missing complaint with the police, according to Mr Anil Roy, IC of Baishnabnagar PS. “We informed the BSF officials on the basis of Saddam's diary”, Mr Roy said.

However, being traceless for two more days, finally Hossain's body was found yesterday on the Bangladesh side of the fencing. After a flag meeting with Bangladesh counterparts, the body was handed over to police.

Police found injury marks on the body. According to police, “The BSF officials had informed police that although they picked up Hossain, he managed to escape from their custody”.

However, police had begun the probe filing a murder case against the two BSF personnel along with the boatmen who were present while they picked up Hossain from Perdeonapur on the bank of the Padma.

The commanding officer of 108-battalion BSF Mr. JSND Prasad said, “The person was involved in smuggling and was killed in their internal feud”.

Villagers, on the other hand, refused to accept such explanation. Hossain's father alleged that the BSF jawans were responsible for his son's death. n SNS
