Inauguration of relocated primary school

Statesman News Service
MALDA, Oct 30: A newly constructed building for a primary school which was relocated near Satya Choudhury Indoor Stadium in Malda district sports’ association ground in English Bazaar town was inaugurated today.

The minister for environment and state parliamentary affairs minister, Mr. Sailen Sarkar, who was closely involved in completing the construction of the primary school, inaugurated the new building, said Mr. C R Das, the Malda district magistrate.

The district administration had to shift the primary school from its earlier location due to the construction of an approach road for a second bridge over the river Mahananda connecting Saharpur in Old Malda with English Bazaar town.

The chairman of the district primary school council, Mr. Uttam Sarkar, appreciated the role of the present district magistrate to provide a plot of government land for this school. Mr. Uttam Sarkar said the council had plans to run the primary school as a model school in its new building.

“However, at present we are facing a crisis to provide adequate number of teachers to make it a model school,” he added.

“It will be difficult to reinforce more teachers here from other schools because we are short of atleast 2,000 primary school teachers due to litigation of primary school teachers’ recruitment,” Mr. Sarkar said.

At present only three teachers are working here and one of them will retire soon but over hundred students from slum areas are studying here.

” We will seek suggestions from the present teachers about whether they are willing to accept ‘promising’ staff from our council office as part time teachers to run the school well,” he added.
