Malda prepares for CM's visit

MALDA, Oct 30: Security arrangements at Old Circuit House were reviewed today due to the chief minister's upcoming visit to the district.

The state environment and parliamentary affairs minister Mr Sailen Sarkar held a meeting with the Malda district magistrate and superintendent of police to take stock of the situation. He asked the district superintendent of police Mr Satyajit Bandyopadhayay to ensure foolproof security for the CM's visit.

Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee would come to Malda on a two-day visit starting from 15 November. He is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for the upcoming University of Gour Banga in English Bazaar on 16 November. There would be a public rally near the proposed university site to be addressed by the chief minister. He would stay at the Old Circuit House.

The minister also discussed matters pertaining to the upcoming university with the outgoing district magistrate Mr CR Das and reviewed the administrative steps to be taken regarding the development of the new university.

Mr Das is scheduled to hand over responsibility to his successor Mr Sreedhar Ghosh tomorrow. He would discuss the matter with Mr Ghosh before his departure from Malda so as to ensure that university building work was not stalled.

The admission process of the students for seven PG courses has already started. The session is scheduled to commence from December this year.

Colleges in three districts such as Malda, North Dinajpur and South Dinajpur would come under the new University of Gour Banga.
