ATM closure hits card holders

Statesman News Service
MALDA, Oct 10:
The closer of the SBI ATM at Malda Tourist Lodge since a month back is causing the public considerable difficulties.

The SBI authorities had to close it down a month back after a robbery attempt and did not reopen since then.

People have facing a lot of problems in consequence. Before the Pujas there was a long queue in front of the ATM located near its main branch, close to the district magistrate office. People had to wait for an hour to get money.

The chief manager of he SBI Mr. S K Chakrabarty said: “We had to close down the ATM because a group of robbers tried to rob the ATM at night. Though goons could not take money from the machine, they damaged the machine”.

“We are trying hard to install a new machine there by 15 October. We brought a new machine and service engineers have already visited the spot”, the chief manager said.

“Before replacing the damaged ATM we need to deploy security personnel there. We had informed the matter to the police and we will also request district police to keep vigil on the ATM, near the Malda Tourist Lodge on N H 34”. SBI officials said.

“We did not have security personnel. Hence we requested our authorities to provide us with security guards as criminal activities are high in English Bazaar , which is very close to the India Bangaldesh border “. Mr. Chakrabarty added.

Meanwhile two more ATMs will come up near Narayanpur BSF camp and Malda district collector’s office.(END)
