Stricter traffic rules this Puja



MALDA, Oct 7: Expecting more crowd at the bigger Puja pandals tonight, police have decided not to allow any vehicles to enter some specific areas in English Bazaar town up to 2 am.

This comes after last night's debacle when people were asked to to visit Puja pandals on foot as chaos reigned supreme with vehicles and people stranded on the roads till 3 a.m.

Malda SP, additional SP and other top officials visited all important roads and police assistance booths in front of Puja pandals in order to keep congestion at bay.

According to a police report, footfall at Sarbajoyee and Shanti Bharati Parishad will increase considerably tonight as well as tomorrow. Police have been instructed to tackle the situation smartly to ease traffic on NH-34.

Last night, many people faced difficulty to go to Malda town station to take trains back to their homes due to traffic congestion.

A total of 400 police men have been deployed at English Bazaar and Old Malda town including on NH-34 especially Rathbari and Sukanta More crossing.

The pandal at No. 2 government colony have been made out of orange peels and other fruits’ wastes. Kutubpur Mistripara where idols are made of sand is also quite popular with the crowd.

Another Puja pandal at Sadarghat is also attracting huge crowd with their theme this year being literacy.
