A smoke free Puja in Malda!

MALDA, Oct. 5: Though Malda police have not received any instruction from the government regarding regulations on smoking in public places, it has decided to approach Puja organisers for announcement against smoking especially in Puja pandals.

Speaking to The Statesman, the superintendent of police, Mr Satyajit Bandyopadhdyay said instructions for banning smoking in public places was yet to reach till date.

“ The administration will issue a notification regarding the matter and the order will come into force accordingly”, Mr Bandyopadhdyay said. According to him, Puja organisers will be approached to announce a ban against smoking publicly as huge crowed will gather in Puja pandals and other places in English Bazaar town.

It may be noted that Puja organisers have been alerted to make arrangement to fight any accidental fire and fire fighters have been alerted on the same.

It was revealed that number of fire tenders is not adequate for huge number of community Pujas in Malda and Old Malda municipal areas.

In English Bazaar town a total of 104 community pujas have been granted permission and fire fighters will ready specially for those but due to inadequate number of fire fighters no special arrangements has been made for Old Malda Municipal areas. n SNS
