MALDA, Oct 10: Police exhumed a one and a half year old girls’ body from Rathbari village in Kaliachak II block this evening in the presence of a magistrate to prepare an inquest report. The child was killed when her father tried to hit his wife with a rod last night. According to the locals, the victim’s father Uttam Sarkar, a daily wage earner, attacked his wife Shefali with a rod last night over a dispute . “Shefali was holding the child Priya and rod hit the child on the head and she died on the spot”, an eyewitness said. According to the locals, the couple was arguing over whether to go out or not on Dashami and it turned nasty. The locals rushed to their house after the incident and decided to bury the victim. But the police learnt of the incident this morning and exhumed the body. The accused is absconding. (END)
