BDO seals school office after parents agitate

Statesman News Service

MALDA, 24 DEC: Bamongola block development officer, Mr Anjan Ghosh, “sealed” the office room of the Khutadaha RC High School following an agitation on the issue of irregularities against the school authorities.

The administration and local police had to take the decision following the agitation organised by a group of guardians and locals.

The guardians had requested the then teacher in charge (TIC), Mr Manothosh Biswas and the managing committee of the school to look into various issues like academic problems, absentee teachers and financial regularities.

Guardians had demanded financial records and accounts on the construction of buildings.

Yesterday, they came to the school and sought clarification from the newly appointed headmaster Mr C S Choube.

The agitation continued till 11.30 p.m. last night. It was finally lifted following an intervention by the local administration and assurance from the district inspector of school (secondary) Mr Chinmay Sarkar, over phone from Kolkata.

Mr Sarkar was in Kolkata for official work and he rushed back today hold a meeting with the guardians and the school authorities to sort out the deadlock.

The new headmaster, Mr Choube, failed to manage the angry guardians and finally disclosed that he did not have any records of financial transactions made earlier during the tenure of the TIC Mr Manothosh Biswas.

The agitators forced the authorities to summon the TIC last night and seek a clarification. Trouble broke out when agitators found difference of opinion between the present headmaster and the TIC.

The TIC, Mr Biswas, could not give them satisfactory answers on the irregularities.

“The TIC did not hand over the complete responsibility to the new headmaster. Today I am holding meeting with them. I will be able to tell in details about the issue later”, said Mr Chinmay Sarkar, the DI (secondary) Malda.
