Gour Banga University likely to run PG classes at indoor stadium

MALDA, 14 DEC: The University of Gour Banga may run classes for seven PG courses in the Satya Choudhury Indoor Stadium in Malda town from April this year due to a lack of its own complex. With no alternative in sight, the UGB vice chancellor Prof Gopa Datta had sought the Malda district magistrate Mr Sridhar Ghosh's help for classrooms as the new university does not have buildings in its campus in English Bazaar town. The university authority has rented rooms from some colleges in different spots to conduct the cases from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. The UGB authority visited the indoor stadium on 11 December following the district magistrate's proposal.The UGB authority has selected a part of the stadium that is generally let out for social functions. The UGB registrar Mr Tapas Chatterjee said: “The accommodation in the stadium is good enough to hold classes for seven subjects but the premise would be available after March. The accommodation has already been let out for various social ceremonies up to March.” According to the registrar, the university authority would take up the proposal to hold classes in the indoor stadium in the council meeting on 18 December.
