Free medical camp at English Bazar

MALDA, 18 DEC: With financial assistance from the department of Bio-Technology (under Central government), a team of doctors will organise a free medical camp for cancer and thalassemia patients in English Bazaar municipal area and the tribal dominated block from Habibpur tomorrow.A team of 23 experts, led by Dr Ashish Mukherjee, director, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Cancer Research Institute in Kolkata, will also organise a workshop at the maternity hospital with the help of the English Bazaar Municipality here. Dr Mukherjee from Kolkata said that thalassemia patients are mostly from Habibpur block area in Malda district.“Under this Central government's project we need to trace awareness campaigning among Mal-Pahari, scheduled caste and scheduled tribe people in Malda district”, he added.There is a provision to set up a tele-medicine centre in Malda and we will decide it after the visit of the Maternity hospital (Matri Sadan) of the English Bazaar Municipality tomorrow. Dr Mukherjee and his associates may meet the family members of Mr Saidul Rahaman, a daily wage earner, who had written to the chief minister Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee in November, pleading for mercy killing after having failed to bear expenses for the treatment of his two children who were suffering from thalassemia.Under the guidance of state's AIDS prevention and control society 18 Red Ribbon Club have been formed in all colleges including private B Ed colleges in this district to continue awareness programme among the 15 to 30 years age group of students and people.Experts from state level will organise a training programme for the interested RRC members tomorrow. Five interested club members have been selected for this training programme.
