ZSI report to solve deer musk seizure case in Malda

MALDA, 25 DEC: Malda forest department is awaiting the laboratory test report of the deer musks from the Zoological Survey of India, that were seized from a Bangladeshi national in October, this year.

During checking of visa and passport, immigration officials had intercepted a Bangladeshi who was carrying 20 small bottles of the deer-musk on the way to his country in October this year. The accused, identified as Hasimuddin Mandal, a resident of Naogaon, is now under police custody. On the basis of the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau's (WCCB) report in Kolkata, the forest department has framed charges against him. According to the divisional forest Officer Mr AK Singh the WCCB said that the deer musks were genuine.

“We are waiting for the ZSI report on the seized deer musks. Recently I have requested the ZSI for sending the report as soon as possible”, said Mr Singh. "If the report shows that the musks are authentic, the accused person will face penal action,” Mr Singh added.

This was the first time that the BSF intelligence nabbed a person involved in such illegal trades. The accused had confessed that he had bought the deer musks from a footpath in Vellore. He had come to India for treatment. ;SNS
