Water supply disrupted in Malda

MALDA, 1 DEC: Supply of arsenic-free drinking water has been disrupted since Thursday here in three blocks due to technical faults. There was no water supply even on Saturday during the Id festival. The public health engineering (PHE) department had to supply water from their old stock in some reservoirs.

On Saturday the PHE officials got into trouble when the cable power line was damaged at Mathurapur in Manikchak block.

The mechanical division of the PHE could not collect raw water from the river Fulohar for purification. After restoration of power the water pipe lines collapsed in some areas disrupting water supply.

Owing to such similar problemsm, drinking water supply was hampered since Thursday in Manikchak, Kaliachak block II and partly in English bazaar block and town.

The executive engineer of the PHE (civil division), Mr Swapan Maitra said: “We could not supply water as water pipes went off at Enayetpur and other areas”.

“Restoration of damaged pipelines has been completed in different points. For the time being we are lifting water from the Fulohar.

After purifying the river water, we have targetted to start water supply from tomorrow morning”, Mr Maitra said. ;SNS
